Located on the western edge of the Kruger National Park, an area that spans over 2.4 million hectares, the Timbavati Nature Reserve is incomparable in being easily accessible from main air and road access routes and yet still wild and unspoilt with fewer lodges and private homes than can be counted on one hand. This unique situation allows our guests the ultimate luxury of exploring this arresting habitat uninhibited by other tourist vehicles and in their own time – a rare and authentic safari experience. Makanyi Lodge provides a graceful yet unobtrusive sanctuary of calm that goes a long way to rival the enchantment of the bush which embraces it. Eight suites blend seamlessly into their environment and offer the space and time to fully unwind: be that by relaxing on your suite’s deck with panoramic views of the bush and bustling dam beyond, curling up before a roaring fire in the evening chill or soaking up the unreal aura in a glorious pedestal bath.

We just returned from the most magical experience at Makanyi. On day one, all the staff had our names memorized and knew our wants and needs before we did! The food was spectacular — I think we were fed 7 times a day! Our guides were phenomenal, and we saw so many more animals than we thought possible. Lillian, Pumi and Amanda took such good care of us. A Trip of a Lifetime

The lodge is small and amazing. The rooms are beautiful — ours had a private pool. The food is not only presented like a 5 star restaurant, it IS a 5 star restaurant. You will gain weight! The game drives are the best and your guide and tracker are miracle workers. They find animals you cannot even see! If you pick this lodge you will not be disappointed. The spa services are also amazing.

Beautiful Makanyi Lodge

Our family of 5 had a trip of a lifetime. All the staff are amazing and go above and beyond to make your time there a once in a lifetime experience. The food was the best we have ever had at any hotel or resort — every single meal was fresh, healthy and delicious. The head chef, Amos, truly takes pride in his work and comes out to talk to everyone at every meal. We highly recommend Makanyi if you are planning a safari in South Africa.

Incredible, Warm, Special Hosted Stay

From the moment we stepped onto the property, we received the warmest welcome. The team at Makanyi makes it feel like every request is no problem at all. We had the best time with our guide and tracker, Sakkie and Casey — funny, informative, and in great spirits at all times. Life Changing Stay

Had an absolutely amazing time at Makanyi! Huge shoutout to Sake and Casey for making the trip unforgettable and keeping us safe.
